Three Bakers Breads: Review and Giveaway

Linda Etherton

Three Bakers logo

Three Bakers is a family-owned company based in Moscow, Pennsylvania, specializing in gluten-free breads, buns, and pizzas.

I love Jane’s story of how Three Bakers came to be.  And I love their promise to make products that taste good, are certified gluten free, are free of dairy (except the pizza), soy, and GMOs, and also contain natural ingredients, fiber, and whole grains.

Recently, gluten-free son and I had the opportunity to try several of their products, and we were impressed.

7 Ancient Grains Bread

Three Bakers Bread

The loaf is a typical size for gluten-free bread.  It definitely has whole-grain characteristics, with a bit of a crunch from the seeds and a hearty flavor and weight.  The bread was soft without being toasted and held together well.  I was impressed! It would be a great choice for sandwiches.

Hot Dog Buns

Three Bakers Hot Dog Bun

Like most gluten-free products, the hot dog buns end up in two pieces when you put a hot dog in the middle.  That was no surprise.  The bread itself was very good.  It was as good as other hot dog buns I have tried.  I did not need to warm the bread in order for it to be soft, though I wouldn’t consider it light and fluffy.  Gluten-free son particularly likes eating hot dogs and was happy with these buns.

Pizza Crust

Three Bakers Pizza

Three Bakers does sell cheese, pepperoni, and sausage pizzas, but what I sampled was only the pizza crust.

It is a nice thin crust that gets crunchy on the edges when baked.  It holds together well and allows you to easily pick up a slice and eat it by hand.  The crust is individual sized.

My son and I both enjoyed it.  Something about the flavor seemed a little odd to me, but my son didn’t notice it.  It was still a very enjoyable pizza.

Hoagie Rolls

Three Bakers Hoagie Roll

I wanted to give you a good look at this roll without food on it.   Of course, the picture doesn’t do it justice.  This is a very nice soft bread.  It makes a great sandwich roll, but my son commented that if you cut it in slices it would also be perfect served as bread to eat with spaghetti.

I haven’t tried the hamburger rolls yet.  Mostly because it’s winter and we’re not grilling.  And because I am severely limiting my carbs.  But based on the other rolls, I’m confident that they will be soft and tasty.

Some of the products I tried when they arrived, and others I froze and then thawed before eating.  Freezing didn’t seem to have any negative effect.  Also, the products kept well on the counter for several days without becoming dry or crumbly.  That’s a significant plus with gluten-free products!

Where to Connect and Purchase

I highly recommend these products.  You can buy them from the Three Bakers web site, and they are also available in some stores.

I just found your site and signed up for your newsletter. I am not celiac but am on an anti-yeast diet, and also I have MS so cutting out the wheat in my diet. Dairy free- except yogurt and kiefer (little cheese now and then); sugar free, using natural substitute but that does not include honey or maple syrup. I was just thinking last night I’d love some french bread with my spaghetti. I want to try your french bread recipe and look forward to trying your other recipes as well.
    Thanks, Jane

I so much like to try new breads. If I don’t win this I’ll make a point to try their bread soon. I remember when we had all types of bread brands to choose from and now we are limited in our stores. If only we can get them stores to realize we don’t eat just 1 brand of bread and we need more then 1 choice…. Right!!? Well that’s what is going on at my local stores. “I’m voicing for more brand of breads.” We have 1 brand…. Blahhhh.

Good luck everyone and remember to voice your opinion on the brands of gluten free breads in your stores!!

    • Susan says

      03/11/2013 at 1:48 pm

I went to the company’s web site and there is xanthan gum in their products – I only looked at two of their products, so I don’t know if it’s in all of them. Look up Three Bakers Bread on your Internet search engine and then look at their products on their web site.

I would love to try to bread for free! I wonder if it will be available nationally or in local co-ops here in the mid-west. I have never eaten so much bread as since I became Celiac/GF, as it is easy to bring a sandwich to work, and difficult to eat out, and many foods are not good reheated at the office. So – sandwiches more often than I would like with a busy schedule.
    Looks like great bread!

I HATE – repeat – HATE that gluten free bread texture I’ve experienced so far… I’m new to GF and as I learned recently it was a food allergy I had had all my life. Unfortunately I miss the multigrain taste and texture. To have a GF bread that stands up to spreading peanut butter would be FANTASTIC!

All three products look to be worth a try! Still looking for an acceptable pizza crust recipe. Sure would be nice to have an addition in the “ready made” option if this is a good one!

Thanks for this information and the photos. The 7 ancient grains bread looks and sounds like one of those things I have dearly missed since being diagnosed with celiac.

These look like good bread! Since I have to avoid both gluten and soy for medical reasons, anytime I can find products without those, it’s time for me to celebrate!

I have recently decided to go gluten free on my own to decrease other health issues and yet to find bread I like. This will be my next try and hope it’s a success with the good reviews I’ve seen.

Oooh! My brothers would flip if I won this. I don’t make GF bread very often because of the carbs, so they are always excited when we get to eat it. 😀 Plus my bread recipes are never light and fluffy because I don’t use starch, just rice and sorghum flour. So they really get excited when they get to cheat and eat fluffy bread. 😀
