As I mentioned last week, my goal of being refined sugar free has evolved into a goal of getting healthier. Because of that, I continue to make changes to my diet.
This week I not only cut out all sweeteners, except for a little stevia occasionally, I also cut out all grains and starchy foods. A month ago I would have said, “No way. I can’t do that. I can’t give up my favorite foods.”
Now, I don’t think it’s hard at all. I have more energy, and I don’t have cravings for those carb filled foods and sweets. I want to tell you more about exactly how I’m eating and why, but I want to give it more time. I’m still adjusting to the plan I’m following and want to have more to report before I tell you about it.
I did lose a couple more pounds this week. (Whoo hoo!) I’m continuing to exercise, though not a lot. I’m doing what is doable for me: brisk walk with the dogs every morning, 10 minutes of weight loss yoga, and 5 minutes of arm or leg muscle toning exercises. My husband is noticing the difference, so that’s good news!
How is sugar free going for you?
If you’re looking for a dessert that doesn’t use refined sugars, try my chocolate nut butter date balls. Just be sure to use a natural nut butter with no added sugar and don’t coat them with powdered sugar. Date balls are easy to play around with and use different ingredients.
If you’re going low carb like me, my zucchini pizza is great and I have more recipes coming the the next couple of weeks.
