Although gluten-free recipes are not necessarily paleo, paleo recipes are gluten free. That’s because the paleo diet does not include grains. Since going grain free a few years ago, I have incorporated more paleo recipes into my cooking and you have seen more of them here on my blog.
But even if you don’t consider yourself to be paleo (I don’t because there are a few non-paleo foods that I do eat such as legumes and white potatoes), you can still enjoy paleo recipes. Many of them are simple and easy recipes. And with low carb flours and natural sweeteners, the baking recipes are healthier than most others.
Here’s a roundup of my paleo recipes. Depending on who you ask (or read), there is some variation in what ingredients are considered paleo, and not all ingredients in these recipes are necessarily always paleo. Nut butter is a good example. Peanuts are not paleo, but almonds are. Not all almond butter is paleo, though, depending on whether other ingredients such as refined sugar and oils are added to it. In recipes that use such ingredients, you would need to use paleo versions to make the recipe truly paleo.
These recipes are dairy free except for a few that call for butter or clarified butter. Some people on a paleo diet use organic, grass fed butter, others omit it completely. A substitute such as coconut oil can always be used.
Desserts
These dessert recipes are my top picks when I want to indulge in a sweet treat. And the use of almond and coconut flours means they are much lower in carbs than most desserts. For recipes that call for chocolate chips, use a brand with few ingredients. Most paleo recipes call for Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips.
