Today I’m excited to share with you a product that we love and use daily – the Berkey water filter. And you’ll have a chance to win a Berkey filter system yourself! I want to be clear up front that I was sent a Travel Berkey free of charge, but I have owned a Big Berkey that I bought myself almost five years ago. I always strive to give honest reviews, and this one is based on long-time experience with this product.
Maybe you’ve heard of Berkey but thought it was too expensive. You definitely need to think again, because Berkey filters last for YEARS. The reason I bought a Berkey filter was to both have cleaner drinking water and to save money.
At the time, we were using our refrigerator filter which only lasted 6 months and was expensive to replace. I was getting tired of the expense, and I knew that it wasn’t a great filter.

I looked into the Berkey filter and was impressed with the long list of contaminants it removes, including chlorine, heavy metals, pesticides, and more. The fine pores of the filter also prevent bacteria and viruses from passing through. It can even be used for filtering water from streams, ponds, lakes, etc. Can you say that about the filter you are currently using?
On average the black filters last about five years. I’m going on five years and recently did the recommended red food coloring test. Mine passed without a trace of red getting through the filter, so it’s still going strong. In the end, it’s cheaper for me than what I was using, and I get a much better filter.
When we lived in a house that used city water, I needed to clean the outside of the filters occasionally (my system contains two black filters). I would notice the flow of water passing through the filters was slowing. Upon removal, I could see a brownish film on the outside of the filters that was easily cleaned off with a brush and water. It was also a good time to give the whole system a thorough cleaning.
For the past two years we’ve been on well water, and the Berkey has worked well with that also.
There are multiple sizes of Berkey filters. Don’t let the term “travel” fool you. The Travel Berkey is not for taking on a walk. It holds 1 .5 gallons of water. It’s perfect for small families. There are larger ones for big families too.
The Berkey comes with an upper and lower chamber. The filters are in the upper chamber, which you fill with water. The filtered water goes into the lower chamber which has a spigot. I recommend getting a Berkey that is big enough to provide drinking water for one day. We fill ours at night so it is ready to go in the morning.
We are very happy with the clean taste of the water and the peace of mind we have from knowing it’s clean.

For more than 30 years we’ve used a distiller to clean our city water. It works wonderfully but the company that made it no longer exists. Before my mom died she had a Berkey that she swore by. Unfortunately, my sister claimed it. I would love to win the Berkey. My husband won’t believe that anything will clean our water as well as our distiller. I’m just afraid that the equipment won’t last much longer.
I followed berkey on facebook.
Many of my friends have a Berkey and have given equally stunning reviews. I love the water and the peace of mind that comes with it.
Thank you so much for writing about the Berkey water filter. Being a 5 time cancer survivor and now having my parathyroid not working at all I am looking for ways to protect myself. Living in a large city it is scary what is in the water. My husband is also a Celiac I would love the chance to win one of these and be an advocate for the product. Thank you for your time.
I would be happy to have the opportunity to win the Berkey travel water filter. Our community water source has been deemed safe, but tastes awful from algae overgrowth in the summer months. I also like the aspect of reducing the number of plastic water bottles we use.
Hi, I would love the Berkey Water Filter. I have heard many good things about this system but have yet to be able to purchase one. We currently use the Refrigerator water filtering system and it’s super expensive and I don’t have all that much confidence that it is filtering out all that it should. I have serious kidney stone issues and would live a system that works to remove contaminants.
Wow, what a great giveaway, Linda! This “travel” size would ideal for me. I’ve looked at Berkeys many times but always thought the regular ones were too large for both my needs and my space. Love this option!
Shirley
I L?VE my Big Berkey! It has severed our family for many years in everything from old military housing to city water to rural well water! We use it ALL the time for ALL our water needs!!
We hope to have an RV soon and I know that I NEED to have a small Berkey to keep my family safe and healthy on the road!!
I followed Berkey’s Facebook page.
I’ve used Brita filters for years but I know that Berkey filters take out SO much more “stuff”. I’d love to try it out for my family!
I would love to have a Berkey. The water in our home tastes/smells two ways, super fishy (we live across the street from the lake) or like chlorine. Even with a fridge filter, out water is just nasty. My husband and I were tested with a zytoscan recently and both have extra heavy metals in our system. I’m sure our water isn’t helping that. My upline in the essential oil company I am part of, has a Berkey in her office and I’ve had water from it…it tastes so clean. My family would definently benefit from a Berkey.
Followed Berkey on FB as well…meant to add that to my last comment
We are always looking for the best ways to provide the healthiest environment for our family. This looks like a wonderful way to be sure our family is getting the most healthy water to drink that is possible to provide. Would love to have one!
Follower of Burkey on Facebook.
We are new to Gluten free living with a recent diagnosis of celiac for a family member in our household. It has prompted us to live healthier and smarter. We would love the addition of a Berkey water filter in our home to help us achieve that goal!
I have heard great things about this water filter and I would love to try one for my family.
I followed Berkey’s Facebook page. My brother has one of the filters and it is the best. I’ve been wanting one for a long time.
I have never heard of Berkey before this. I currently use a Brita pitcher to filter water for drinking. We have city water and it does a fair job of filtering out the taste of chemicals and odors.
I have always wanted to try a water filtration system for our well water. We only drink water, and a lot of it! I would love to have a Travel Berkey for myself and my family!
I’ve been looking for a filter as good as the Berkey Water Filter! I have issues with high copper levels in my bloodwork, which suggests copper from my pipes. I also have severe allergies, and need clean filtered water to avoid contaminants. We also have a water system that comes from a lake, so algae is an issue at times as well. In addition, I also need to remove as much flouride as possible due to thyroid issues.
I currently use a cheaper countertop filter, and it is not working as well as I need. I would love to win this filter!
After living with well water and now city water, I’m interested in taking out the weird tastes in my water.
I use another brand water filter but feel I might not be getting the best filtration that I should be getting. I would love to try a better system. Thank you for giving an opportunity.
Up until this moment I have never heard of this water filtering system before. I live in the country with well water so I have to purchase my water. It would be great to be able to drink from the tap (sorta) again.

I have been looking at the Berkey filter for a long time.i have Hashimoto’s so I have spent a lot of time cleaning up our household products and eating in our household to better support our health. Having one of these would be a big step in the right direction.
Liked the Berkey page! I’ve had my eye on these for quite some time, but haven’t made the investment yet. I first heard of Berkey from Chris Wark (Chris Beat Cancer). I have been changing my lifestyle and my family’s health over the past few years through clean eating and removal of harmful chemicals and fragrance in our lives.
Hi.
Thanks again for all the great GF recipes! I use quite a few of them regularly!
My holistic doctor recommended I get a Berkey to put better quality water into my body. We have been working together to reduce the high levels of several “contaminants” in my body, including chlorine.
After some investigation, turns out our house and our neighbors get additional chlorine in our water because we live closer to the water plant and for the farther off people to get “enough” chlorine, we have to get additional levels so it can reach the farther away homes. Yikes!
Who knew?! Thanks for a great and much needed giveaway!
Nancy
I forgot to say I am following the Berkey FB page!
I have very limeted counter space, we have looked into these but I didn’t know they had a Travel version, this would be great for our counters as they are also not very tall due to cabinets above all of them.
I also liked their FB page. 😀
This sounds like an amazing way to have clean, pure water.
We have persons with digestive issues in the house as well as gluten free so the idea that we a get our well water even purer is wonderful. This looks to be a keeper as well as something nice to look at on the counter.
Liked Berkeley home page. Thank you for an honest review of this product. Having a compromised immune system, I feel that this would be a great to add to my gluten free lifestyle.
Many of my friends have a Berkey and swear by them. The cost has always been an issue for our family of 11, so I haven’t bit the bullet yet. Would love to win!
Little by little, my body is healing. I have listened to my body and watched what gives me more energy and what depletes that energy; what relieves my severe eczema and what exacerbates it; what helps me lose or maintain my weight and what increases my weight; and what makes me sick and what makes me well. I’ve come a long way in the last 10 years and this is one purchase that I have always wanted to make, but haven’t put down the big bucks to get one yet. I WOULD LOVE to win this. Thank you for the possibility!
And I am following Berkey
I followed Berkey on Facebook!
oh wow.. I have always heard such good things about them! I use 5 gallon jugs that i refill at the store but they are so hard to carry up all the steps into my home! We do it anyway cause we are dedicated to having healthier water. I would love to try a Berkey! The travel size would be nice to start with! and travel with it?? what a bonus. I went and followed their page like you asked!
I have been interested in getting a Berkey for a while mostly to filter chlorine and fluoride out of our drinking water. We’ve been making many small changes for years to improve the health of our family and this would be a great next step!
I also followed Berkey’s Facebook page! 🙂
Followed the Berkey Page… love their products!
I like the idea of not having to use my refrigerator filters anymore. Less plastic waste. The Berkey Water system filters more contaminants, thus better for our family.
I have three daughters with auto immune system conditions. I am searching to find something to help them refinery things that they did not have in their bodies.
I follow the page
I’ve been wanting to try a Berkey water filter for years. We used to use a Brita pitcher, but the filters cost so much and my kids always forgot to refill the pitcher. Now we have filtered water inside our refrigerator, but the replacement filters are so expensive, and we have to open the door to access the water, which wastes electricity. I keep coming back to the Berkey as the best solution.
I would LOVE to win a Berkey of any size because I’m tired of lugging home bottled water and my tap water reeks of chlorine and chemicals.
I just started following Berkey on Facebook.
This is the best giveaway I have ever entered. I have followed the Berkey Facebook page for some time even though we do not own a Berkey. A Berkey is at the top of our family’s wish list since learning about all of the issues with out city water. We have received notices about radon in our water in the past. A recent check from EWG showed even more contaminants. With 5 children still at home, and multiple chronic diseases/illnesses in our family, a Berkey would eliminate some stress and worry. We use filter pitchers now but we know they aren’t eliminating everything a Berkey does.
I would love to try a Berkey filter because we worry about heavy metals and chlorine that’s in our tap water. Interested to see as well if it would help with our histamine thresholds and allergy issues in our family.
I would love to try this to have healthy drinking water for my family. With my multiple chronic conditions, my son’s autoimmune disease, it is imperative that everything we put into our bodies is the best quality possible.
I liked and followed the Berkey page on Facebook. Thanks!
Berkey sounds like a good option to drinking safer water on-the-go and at home, and a good way to stop plastic use. I have liked the FB page, as suggested, too.
I would love the chance to try a Burkey water filter. It looks like an excellent quality machine. I have never even heard of that brand before today. It would definately safe me a bunch of money on buying plastic water bottles that have water that one does not know exactly where the water comes from or how good it is filtered. Thanks
I would love to try a Berkey water filter for my family. We buy bottled water in 2.5 gallon size 2 or 3 times a week because our tap water has too much chlorine for my taste. My daughter has gluten intolerance and she and I both have IBS, so this just might help us start to feel a little bit better! Thank you.
I also liked the Berkey facbebook page
I have well water and cannot use it in my coffee ma!er.
We put a water filtration system in our old house but moved and do not have one now.
I followed the Berkey Facebook page.
We just purchased our Berkey last month and lover it! Super easy to fill and the water taste great!
I follow Berkey on Facebook .
Followed!
Hi Linda! It is awesome that you are posting about the Berkley! My cousin has one and I am in LOVE with it! The water in the last place where I owned a home was not drinkable and we had a whole home filtration unit which was wonderful. I moved back to my hometown recently and I would not even consider drinking the tap. If you let your glass of tap sit for a little while it will have major sediment at the bottom. It is disgusting. I would love to have this top of the line filter for my family!
I followed the Berkley FB page!
We currently use a Brita both in the house and in our camper, I have looked into the Berkeley, especially for camping because we don’t have any hookups and need to be sure our water is safe to drink.
I followed Berkey on Facebook
I was recently diagnosed with hashimotos disease and was told to drink water only filtered through reverse osmosis….we’ve been buy bottles of water like crazy spending so much money! My parents own a Berkey filter and we go to their house for vacation every year and I LOVE using their system and the water tastes so good!
Following Berkey Facebook page for quite awhile because I’m very interested in getting a Berkey and the travel size would be a great way to try it out.
We use a Brita but it needs to be filled often throughout the day and we go through the filters so fast. I would love to try out a Berkeley as I’ve been reading about them for years and they seem to be top
Of the line.
I followed the Berkeley Facebook page
I followed Berkeley. And I am anxious to try one bc we have hard water and I’ve heard you can literally taste the difference!! ??
I use a pitcher filter, and it works OK, but it has to be refilled several times a day. I would love to win the Berkey! 1.5 gal would be perfect size for me, as I live alone.
Would love to have one for my family. My daughter found out a few years back that she has celiac disease. Since then she has developed cirrhosis of the liver along with autoimmune hepatitis. She is on medication and has to be careful regarding catching diseases as her medicine makes her to where she has no immune system. From my research this would be a life saver for her. We drink bottled water all the time. Please consider us for the drawing. Thank you.
If water has even a little bit of chlorine in it I can taste it. Even when we change the filter in our fridge the water still taste bitter to me. I think the Berkeley filter would be perfect for my picky picky taste buds.
I followed their page on Facebook.
I would love to win this!! We live in an area that the fields are sprayed and I would like to have a Berkeley to filter our water. I’ve been thinking of getting one.
I have a lot of health issues, from allergies to autoimmune disorders, I also had my thyroid taken out, The chlorine and flouride are things that I want to avoid in my water, well, besides the bateria! I would absolutley love to have a Berkey system, to help with improving my heath and for my dogs. This way we could have clean drinking water.
What a fantastic giveaway 🙂
I also followed the Berkey Facebook page.
I followed Berkey on facebook 🙂 I have heatd wonderful stuff about their filters and would very much consider getting one in future and this travel size would be great in testing it and helping us decide.
I hadn’t heard of Berkey before and have used Brita with the hopes of having a RO system installed some day. Thanks for providing info on another alternative. Followed Berkey on FB.
I have well water and use a water pitcher filter right now. This sounds left! I followed Berkeys page
I followed Berkey on facebook.
We use a Brita filter as well but it needs to be filled so many times throughout the day and the water still does not taste that great. I want try out a Berkeley since I’ve heard about them a lot and they seem great!
I am following Berkeley FB page. I’d love a Berkey. I currently put mineral drops in my water but would love to be able to use the Berkey instead. Our water tastes and smells like bleach. My mother has a Berkey and the taste is great!
I have looked at buying one of these filters for awhile but the price held me back! My fridge has a filter but two friends own a Berkey and love it! Thanks for the opportunity to win one!
I’m interested in owning one because I am looking for the healthiest water filtration system!
I followed the Berkey Facebook page. We currently use a Zero water filter pitcher which does a good job, but the filters are expensive. I like the fact that Berkey filters last 5 years!
I would like the Berkey system for our well water because I like that it will purify our water.
I Follow The Berkey Facebook page.
Hi! I’m interested because our drinking water seems inconsistent in taste and that worries me. Being pregnant and soon to be breastfeeding means I’m constantly hydrating and I’d like to be hydrating with quality water. Thanks for your help with gf family recipes.
Water is so important, but with all the stuff in it, it is hard to find quality water. I would love a Berkey for my family to encourage water with peace of mind that it is pure and “stuff” free.

We live on a well and the water seems to upset the kids stomach . Bottled water is becoming expensive

We love our countertop Berky! So nice to know we will always have pure filtered water. It would be wonderful to have a travel one when we go camping.
I have looked into a Berkey Water Filter System for a couple of years, I just have not been able to save the money to purchase one. I would so love one as it is would be another step in helping my daughter in healing from a major gut issue. Thank you for the opportunity. Commented on your Facebook Page and liked Berkey page.
We have well water and the filter that I use is not nearly as effective as the description that you give of the Berkeley filter. With many health problems I would feel safer with an efficiently filter. I did follow their page. Thanks for the opportunity!
This is on my WISH list — top of the list! Have wanted this for years. “Someday” I will get it.
I have also followed the Berkey Facebook page.

I would love to win this. We had one but moved to a farm that had a well so we gave it to someone. Now we are moving and could use one cause we will have city water. We love the berkey and the water always tastes great.
I’d like to try the Berkeley water filter at our home. We have a similar water issue as you. In addition, We purchased our home last October and found out we also have lead in our water, but according to the City, it’s within “acceptable “ limits. To me, no lead is acceptable. Thank you for the chance to win this great prize! Also following their page.
I have wanted a Berkey for years, but it’s just been out of our price range. We currently drink filtered city water, which tastes heavily chlorinated when not filtered. This concerns me about what is actually in our drinking water. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of these for our home!
We have an old farmhouse, and HIGH nitrate levels in our well,… we have a reverse osmosis under kitchen sink, but are always running out. Family of 6, using the ‘clean’ water for drinking and cooking. Looking for a system so my family can remain healthy.
