Sugar Free August Week 3

As I mentioned last week, my goal of being refined sugar free has evolved into a goal of getting healthier. Because of that, I continue to make changes to my diet.

This week I not only cut out all sweeteners, except for a little stevia occasionally, I also cut out all grains and starchy foods.  A month ago I would have said, “No way.  I can’t do that.  I can’t give up my favorite foods.”

Now, I don’t think it’s hard at all.  I have more energy, and I don’t have cravings for those carb filled foods and sweets.  I want to tell you more about exactly how I’m eating and why, but I want to give it more time.  I’m still adjusting to the plan I’m following and want to have more to report before I tell you about it.

I did lose a couple more pounds this week.  (Whoo hoo!) I’m continuing to exercise, though not a lot.  I’m doing what is doable for me:  brisk walk with the dogs every morning, 10 minutes of weight loss yoga, and 5 minutes of arm or leg muscle toning exercises.   My husband is noticing the difference, so that’s good news!

How is sugar free going for you?

If you’re looking for a dessert that doesn’t use refined sugars, try my chocolate nut butter date balls.  Just be sure to use a natural nut butter with no added sugar and don’t coat them with powdered sugar.  Date balls are easy to play around with and use different ingredients.

If you’re going low carb like me, my zucchini pizza is great and I have more recipes coming the the next couple of weeks.

  1. Yay, Linda! I’m so glad you are having such success with these dietary changes, for your sake and ours. Can’t wait to see the new recipes you have for us! :)

  2. Hi Linda, Congratulations!! Wow, 23 days and we haven’t given up! I need to add in more exercise too, good for you! It’s so hot here in Florida it’s hard to move much! I lost about 5 pounds in the first 2 weeks, but then I was missing something sweet after dinner, so I started eating frozen grapes, bananas and Smoothies a little too much and gained it back! darn it! But now I’m back down and doing good. Here’s to wearing our skinny jeans soon! Big hugs, Ali

  3. Congratulations on getting past the cravings! We’ve been sugar-free (among other-things-free) for over a year now, and we love how we feel. We do use honey occasionally but other than that, our sweets come from fruit and vegetables.

I am curious if you are working toward the Specific Carbohydrate Diet or the GAPS Diet since you are removing grains and starchy foods. We’ve been on the GAPS Diet for over a year and have experienced amazing results regarding a number of issues.

    Wishing you continued success!

  4. Linda, That’s exciting that you’re seeing results! I’m eager to hear your low-carb diet methods.

  5. Congratulations on your success thus far, Linda! You are inspiring to us all! :-)

    Shirley
