Rudi's Happy Camper Contest and a Tent Giveaway! | The Gluten-Free Homemaker

Attending camp can be a great experience for kids. I had an unforgettable camp experience when I was 11 years old. My family was a part of Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV).

It was through CISV that I was able to be a part of a four week international camp in Milan, Italy. That’s right, I spent four weeks in Italy when I was only 11! But the best part was that there were children (two girls and two boys, as well as an adult) from 11 other countries around the world.

We had a blast learning about each other’s cultures and doing all kinds of fun things together. We traded small gifts, toured the city, swam in a local pool, did arts and crafts, put on performances, and much more. It was amazing! I still keep in touch with my best friend from that camp. Her name is Claudette, and she lives in the Philippines. I’ve seen her a couple of times since then, but not in recent years.

For a gluten-free child (and his/her parents) attending camp can be full of food related complications. A gluten-free camp would eliminate so many concerns, and I’m sure make the time much more enjoyable for kids and parents. That’s why I think this is a great thing that Rudi’s is doing and want to help them get the word out to you.

But that’s not all! Rudi’s knows that many families also like to go camping together, and they’re giving one of you the chance to win this Coleman Sundome 4-person tent along with 5 free Rudi’s product coupons!

What a great experience for my GF boy! I am hesitant to send him to sleep away camp, or even go to cub scout camp, because I know they eat many convenience foods.

  2. Susan Shirer says

This is such an awesome opportunity! Rudi’s is the only bread my daughter will eat, we love Rudi’s!!

  3. Angie Kowalski says

Thank you for making amazing gluten free products for us to enjoy!

  4. kel says

I agree. My son is gluten free, among other things and we cannot send him away as people around here do not understand these things. I get ignorant comments like, it will not hurt him, etc all of the time and every kid event wants to include snacks, all of which are not healthy and you have to pay for this as part of the activity regularly. It is crazy. Not to mention he has other issues that no one else seems to understand and we have to go with him always due to all of this. This would be an amazing opportunity.

  5. Tamarah says

I have a gluten free celiac baby her name is Morgan and she is a spunky 9 year old. We live in a small town so there’s not a lot of gluten free options for her we have to go out of town to shop for her. Parents that do not have GF or CD baby tend to think it is a fad or trend diet. So she is not invited to alot of things. This would be awesome.

  6. Heather Poole says

As a single mom with 3 kids and 2 if them plus myself having to eat gluten free it would be so nice to have a tent for our own camping fun. My kids have been wanting a tent for years to go camping. This is a winderful thing to offer.

  7. Connie bartlett says

This is such an amazing opportunity ! My son who has celiacs disease and he is also a type 1 diabetic loves to be outside more than anything else. I am always so stressed to let him go anywhere too far away from me. Most people don’t understand either disease and have no idea what he can eat. I cook all his meals and pack his lunch. He now also loves to cook and is really good at it! He loves to camp, fish, skateboard, archery, and has a love for all animals and reptiles..

  8. michelle says

Wish my son could go, but still have other food allergies to watch out for, but we all love camping!

  9. Cari J. says

Camping is definitely worth the effort it takes beforehand. Great memories for families!

  10. Nancy says

I took my teenagers camping last year and they loved it-they asked if they could do it again! Such a great way to build memories and share life experiences.

  11. says

Our world definitely changed with a gluten free allergy. The health changes and improvements are worth the difficulties. Glad for Rudi’s and their support of families.

  12. Jeanne says

What a wonderful opportunity this camp would be. I’ve emailed it to members of our co-op, many of whom have children with celiac or GI. Meanwhile, my husband and I would sure enjoy the tent :0) ! Rudi’s Multigrain is my favorite sandwich bread.

  13. Angelie says

Thank you for your help on living a Gluten free lifestyle! I can’t imagine doing it without your help! I am sure there are so many people who feel the same way I do! Thanks again!

  14. Michelle says

My daughter who is 8 has Celiac. I would love to send her to an overnight gluten free camp some day but right now that would be too much time away from mom and her sisters.
However we would love to be entered for the tent and product coupons. I am a young widowed mom of three girls (8 year old and 3 year old twins). We were eating all gluten free but recently due to financial difficulties, I now make two meals some nights in order to save some money!

  15. erin criss says

My 11 year most likely won’t be able to go to girl scout with the rest of her troop to food allergies. She misses out on so much on so much because what she can and can’t not eat.

  18. Jennifer Schreiner says

It is great that Rudi’s is having these great opportunities. I was able to camp with my first son years ago which led him to become an Eagle Scout. Now with our two children we have been wanting to introduce them to the world of camping too.

  19. Patty says

  45. Kellie says

Going as a leader to scout camp is so hard for me, I don’t even volunteer anymore. You feel like you are trying to make a production when you say “Gluten Free”. It can be so embarrassing. It is so wonderful that this kids have a place to go where they won’t feel like they are different!

  46. Jill Hobbs says

I love the gluten free camp idea for kids. I don’t have any kids left at home but this is a great prize for a kid.
I’d like to win the tent n

  47. Lisa oursler says

One of the best times since being diagnosed almost a year ago was my first long weekend camping… I was so anxious about food and once I was there and prepared (with Rudis bread for pb&j which also doubled as hot dog / hamburger buns since it took less space) I realized how much worrying I had been doing for nothing… Freeing…
That is the tent I had actually and somehow the poles got mixed up with my friend’s ex boyfriend’s so needless to say that tent no longer is :(

  48. Susan Rice says

My daughter loves to go to camp! with all of her food allergies (more than just gluten) it is a very nerve wracking time for me as a mom thinking about summer camps etc. Luckily we have found a camp that has a special nutritionist that develops individual meal plans for her allergy campers and my daughter is able to enjoy the fun of going to a sleep over camp without the anxiety of a reaction to her food. We love to go camping and coming up with new and exciting foods to make over our fires and a new tent would make our summer!

    Thanks Rudi!

  56. Shelly says

What a fantastic opportunity! We used to camp with our son and this would be wonderful to do now with the grandkids!

  57. Jessica Evans says

We are mostly gluten free in this household. I have MS and find that gluten greatly contributes to whether or not I can function. Honestly, there is a TON of auto-immune disease on both sides of our family and I firmly believe a gluten intolerance can trigger a disease. My life in particular has been vastly different before and after. <3

  58. Kathleen Hickey says

An awesome contest. I am new to the gluten free lifestyle, and I was recently asked how soon would I be better, and able to eat normally…. When I explained that I need to watch what I eat for the rest of my life, she was very surprised… and it was noted that at least I’m not a kid… I said no, I can no longer have birthday cake at my grandkids parties, and that quieted her…..
