Kitchen Tip: Storing Celery

Kitchen Tip button

Today’s tip was sent to me by a reader.  It is a tip I had never heard about before.  She doesn’t take credit for it herself, but says the tip is from Martha Stewart.

Tracy says,

When you bring celery home from the store, take it out of the plastic and wrap it in foil and refrigerate. It stays crisp for soo long!

question markHave you ever tried storing celery this way?

  1. I usually store celery in a pitcher of water in the frig to keep it crisp. It’s also good for re-crisping celery that has gone limp.

  2. I store my celery in foil and it does keep much longer. I have been doing it this way for a couple years.

  3. Jennifer says:

I don’t know about how to contain celery while storing it, but I heard that if you slice the amount you want instead of breaking off stalks it stays fresh longer. I’ve tried that sporadically and it works when I do it. ;)

  4. I’m buying some celery on the way home this evening. Will have to try this trip because my celery doesn’t usually last too long.

  5. I had never heard of this and that is a great tip! The following will not help with keeping fresh celery, but this is what I do with it mostly, when I get some at a good price:
