Keeping a Clean Kitchen: Refrigerator & Freezer

clean kitchen button

I hope you were able to get a few of your drawers cleaned out last month.  I didn’t get all of mine done, but I did make some progress.

I thought May would be a good month to clean the refrigerator and freezer really well, before the weather get too hot and you don’t want to take food out or leave the doors open for cleaning.

I have a refrigerator with a bottom freezer, but I also have a chest freezer which needs to be defrosted.  That means leaving the food out for a little longer, so coolers definitely come in handy.  It will be a good opportunity to clean out and organize that big freezer also.  It needs it.

refrigerator May: Clean the inside and outside of your refrigerator(s) and freezer(s).

  • The best way to do a thorough cleaning inside is to remove everything one shelf or drawer or bin at a time.
  • Don’t forget the gaskets that seal the doors.  They have folds that collect pieces of dirt and food.
  • Thoroughly clean the outside.  Don’t forget the top!
  • It’s a good idea to pull the refrigerator out and clean the coils, if you can do that without hurting yourself.

  1. I defrosted my garage freezer last month, what a great feeling…I love spring cleaning, sick…I know! My inside refrigerator was on it’s last leg so it was time to get a new one (which I did!). I have been joking with my family and friends that I really didn’t need a new one just yet but I didn’t want to spring clean the old one!!!! At any rate, it’s new and shiny clean, for now anyways!
