Gluten-Free Gourmand Flour Mix Review & Giveaway

Gluten-Free-Gourmand-flour-mixGina of Gluten-Free Gourmand was one of the first gluten-free bloggers I met online.  She participated in my first Wednesday carnival which was originally called What’s for Dinner Wednesday.

When Gina recently contacted me about her gluten-free products, I knew they would be good.  She sells all purpose flour, pastry flour, and several mixes.  I sampled her all purpose flour mix.

I like the combination of flours in this mix:  organic brown rice , white rice, sorghum, organic amaranth, potato, and tapioca.  The flour mix does not contain any gum, so that should be added with our recipe if needed.  That’s a big advantage for people who need to avoid corn since xanthan gum is usually derived from corn.

I used the flour mix to make chocolate chip nut muffins and they turned out perfectly.

    Thanks Linda for the amazing review and thanks to everyone for the great comments! The difference between the All-Purpose Flour and the Pastry Flour is that the Pastry Flour is much finer in texture and a bit starchier. It does not have brown rice flour in it, which can be too heavy for some pastries. It does have xanthan gum added, but in the minimum amount necessary to bind the flour. I hope that helps everyone decide which flour they would like to win!

But, most of my baking is muffins, scones and cookies, so I would use the all purpose flour blend more. And I would really love to win that!.

    Your tortillas sound delicious and was wondering if the same pastry flour should be used for making paneer or naan bread. One item I’ve been missing for years is croissants. The pastry dough, once again, sounds like it would be a nice match for the light and fluffy pastries.

      Marie – believe it or not I haven’t ever tried to make Naan – even before I went gluten-free. I bet the Pastry Flour would give you a nice, light-textured naan. I’ll put it on my list. Good luck!
