Hamburger Soup

Ingredients
  • 1 to 1½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 potatoes, peeled
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 6 cups water or broth
Instructions
Stovetop:
  1. Brown and drain the ground beef.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a pot and cook until the vegetables are tender.
Crock Pot:
  1. Brown and drain the ground beef.
  2. Lightly sauté the onion.
  3. Dice the potatoes, slice the carrots and celery.
  4. Add everything to the crock pot and cook on low 6-8 hours or high 3-4 hours.
Pressure Cooker:
  1. Brown and drain the ground beef.
  2. In pressure cooker combine water or broth, onion, potatoes (cut in ½ inch pieces), carrots and celery (whole) and bay leaf.
  3. Bring to high pressure and cook for 4 minutes.
  4. Bring pressure down under cold running water.
  5. Remove lid and slice the carrots and celery.
  6. Stir in the thyme, basil, salt, and pepper.
